Moss, born February 13, 1977, is an ex-American football player. He played with
the Minnesota Vikings (Oak Raiders), New England Patriots (New England
Patriots), Tennessee Titans (Tennessee Titans) as well as the San Francisco
49ers in the National Football League. The most admired wide receiver in
history alongside Jerry Rice, he holds the NFL single-season touchdown
reception record (23 in 2007) as well as the NFL single-season record for
touchdown reception for a rookie (17 in 1998) and is ranked second in the NFL
all-time regular season touchdown list, with 156. Moss was famous for his
prowess in securing contested catches and the word "mossed" has been
incorporated into football's lexicon. After his career in football began, he
was hired as a studio analyst for ESPN for the Sunday NFL Countdown program and
Monday Night Countdown. Moss was from Rand, West Virginia native. He attended
DuPont High School. It was one of two schools which later became Riverside High
School. There the student excelled at basketball, football, baseball track,
track and other sports. Randy was also a part of the school's debating club. On
the field of football, Moss led the DuPont Panthers to state championships in
back-to-back years in 1993 and 1992. He was a standout at wide receiver, but
also played free safety, returned kickoffs and punts, and was the team's punter
and kicker. He won the Kennedy Award for West Virginia Football Player's of the
Year in 1994. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high-school
football teams in the year 1995. In 2009 they named him one of the 50 greatest
high-school football players of all-time.
